(religion, spiritualism, and occult)

Jean Meyer was an enthusiastic supporter of Allan Kardec in France. Meyer founded the Maison des Spirites in Paris to disseminate spiritist knowledge. Meyer also founded the Institut Metapsychique International in Paris to pursue psychical research. In 1919, this organization was recognized by the French government as a public utility.

Meyer was a French industrialist who became quite wealthy. He was able to endow his institute with a large part of his fortune and just before his death on April 13, 1931, he presented it with a very expensive infrared installation.
