Meyer, Robert

Born Jan. 11, 1864, in Hanover; died Dec. 12, 1947, in Minneapolis. German gynecologist and pathohistologist.

Meyer completed his medical studies in Strasbourg in 1889. From 1912 he was the director of the Pathological Institute of the Gynecological Clinic of the University of Berlin. Persecuted by the Nazis, Meyer emigrated to the USA in 1939. From 1939 to 1944 he was a professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School. His principal works were on the histology, physiology, and embryology of the female sexual organs. He developed a theory on the histogenesis of benign and malignant tumors and substantiated the necessity for early diagnosis for the timely treatment of uterine tumors.
