Ankole
Ankole
an African state that arose around the 15th and 16th centuries A.D. northeast of Lake Victoria, on the territory of present Uganda. During the 17th and 18th centuries the Ankole rulers paid tribute to the head of the state of Kitara. In the 19th century Ankole was a feudal state dependent on the state of Buganda. Ankole fell under the British sphere of influence by the terms of an Anglo-German agreement in 1890, and Britain incorporated Ankole into the former protectorate of Uganda in 1901.
