Location:7 miles southeast of Las Vegas, New Mexico.
Facilities:Visitor contact station, viewing sites, trail, auto tour routes (8 miles), historic sites.
Activities:Hiking, fishing, hunting.
Special Features:Refuge's trail is a self-guided, half-mile nature walk that descends into a box canyon. To protect wildlife on the refuge and historic sites in the area, trail is open for day use only and requires a free, special-use permit.
Habitats: 8,672 acres of native grassland, cropland, marshes, ponds, forested canyons, and streams.
Access: Dawn to dusk, 7 days a week.
Wild life: Hawks, sandpipers, white-throated swifts, mule deer, pronghorn, wild turkeys, and rabbits.
