magnetic drain plug magnetic drain plugA component of some lubrication systems in which metal particles in lubricating oil are attracted and collected. In some aircraft, magnetic drain plugs are connected to a warning light that comes on when magnetic particles are found. Metal particles in the lubrication system are a sign of impending internal failure of the engine. The system is similar to a chip detector system. See chip detector. |
