Mezhdusharskii Island

an island in the Barents Sea. Separated from Iuzhnyi Island of Novaia Zemlia by the Kostin Shar Strait. Area, 748 sq km. It is part of Arkhangel’sk Oblast, RSFSR. The surface is a hilly plain (elevations to 101 m) with tundra vegetation and bogs. The island is composed primarily of argillaceous schist and sandstone. There are bird colonies on the rocky cliffs.
