magnetic pressure[mag′ned·ik ′presh·ər] (plasma physics) A function, proportional to the square of the magnetic induction, such that the force exerted by a magnetic field on an electrically conducting fluid (excluding the force associated with curvature of magnetic flux lines) is the same as the force that would be exerted by a hydrostatic pressure equal to this function.
