Bagdash, Halad

 

Born Nov. 15, 1912, in Damascus. A figure in the Syrian workers’ and national liberation movement.

Bagdash received his primary and secondary education in Damascus. He joined the revolutionary movement at the age of 18 and became a member of the Syrian Communist Party (SCP) in 1930. In 1933 he became the secretary and, in 1937, the general secretary of the Central Committee of the SCP. He took part in the work of the seventh congress of the Comintern (1935). From 1954 to 1958 he was a deputy of the Syrian parliament. He has written a number of theoretical and publicistic works.
