Peskov, Nikolai Petrovich

Born Jan. 6 (18), 1880, in Moscow; died there June 15, 1940. Soviet physical chemist.

Peskov studied at the Moscow Higher Technical School. He graduated from the University of Breslau (Wroclaw) in 1912. He worked at Moscow University from 1914 to 1917 and held professorships at the polytechnic institutes in Omsk from 1917 to 1920 and Ivanovo from 1920 and at the Moscow Institute of Chemical Engineering from 1924 to 1940.

Peskov’s main works were in colloid chemistry; he dealt not only with theoretical problems in this area but also with problems relating to practical applications (dyeing, tanning, sizing, and so on). He was the author of the monographs Physicochemical Principles of Colloid Science (2nd ed., 1934) and A Course in Colloid Chemistry (2nd ed., 1948; with E. M. Aleksandrova-Preis).
