maximum lactate steady state

maximum lactate steady state

The speed or power output level an athlete can maintain without experiencing a steady increase in blood lactate levels, which leads to exhaustion; although accumulating hydrogen ions is more important in causing exercise-related exhaustion, lactate levels are more easily measured and thus a reliable indicator of muscle acidity. In athletes, the lactate value associated with this variable is about 4 mmol/L; it is essentially equivalent to critical speed.
