Lixus


Lixus

 

a genus of coleopteroid beetles of the family Curculionidae. The cylindrical body is 5 to 30 mm long. The larvae are slightly curved. Lixus develop in the stems of herbaceous plants. There are about 500 widely distributed species; the USSR has more than 100 species. Many are pests of cultivated plants. For example, L. subtilis damages sugar beets, L. ascanii crucifers, and L. iridis carrots, parsley, and other umbellifers.
