Obzha

Obzha

 

a unit of land taxation in the Novgorod lands between the 15th and 17th centuries, levied on plowmen who owned one horse. The size of the obzha varied from one region to another, changed between the late 15th and 17th centuries, and depended on the quality of the land and other natural conditions. The average obzha was equal to 15 desiatinas (16.35 hectares).
