Nikolai Vladimirovich Talyzin

Born Jan. 28, 1929, in Moscow. Soviet state figure. Doctor of technical sciences (1970); professor (1975). Member of the CPSU since 1960.

The son of a worker, Talyzin graduated from the Moscow Electrical Engineering Institute of Communications in 1955. He worked as an electrician from 1942 to 1950. From 1955 to 1965 he held a series of positions at a scientific research institute; after joining the institute as an engineer, he became head designer and then deputy director of the institute in charge of science. Between 1965 and 1975, Talyzin served as deputy minister of communications of the USSR and as first deputy minister; he was appointed minister in 1975. He became deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR in 1980. Talyzin was elected a candidate member of the Central Committee of the CPSU in 1976 and a member in 1981. He was also elected a deputy to the tenth convocation of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.

Talyzin has received two State Prizes of the USSR and has been awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and various medals.
