Nikolai Vysotskh

Vysotskh, Nikolai Konstantingvich

Born Apr. 11 (23), 1864, in Barnaul; died Aug. 7, 1932, in Leningrad. Soviet geologist and mining engineer.

After his graduation from the St. Petersburg Mining Institute in 1891, Vysotskii worked on the Geological Committee. He was a specialist on the geology of platinum deposits. His basic works are devoted to the characteristics of the most important industrial regions in the Urals (the platinum de-posits of the Is and Nizhnii Tagil regions and the gold-bearing Kochkar’ and Cheliabinsk regions). Vysotskii composed a detailed description of tertiary and quaternary deposits of Western Siberia. He also composed regional sketches for the geological map of the Urals (1931).
