autoimmune haemolytic anaemia

A condition in which IgG autoantibodies are directed against a component of Rh factor coat red cell surfaces.
 
Aetiology
Idiopathic (±50%), SLE, CLL, lymphomas.
 
Clinical finding
Anaemia of rapid onset, fatigue with angina or CHF, jaundice, splenomegaly.
 
Lab
Anaemia, spherocytosis, nucleated RBCs, positive direct Coombs test.
 
Management
Prednisone, IV immune globulin, splenomegaly.
 
Prognosis
Good.
