A condition characterised by a plug of thick, inspissated bile and mucus, which may obstruct the common bile duct (CBD); it is more common in sick premature infants requiring long-term parenteral nutrition.Clinical findings
Anaemia, jaundice, hepatomegaly.
Diagnosis
Ultrasonography, dilated intrahepatic ducts, exploratory laparotomy, operative cholangiography.
Management
Irrigation of CBD.
