He graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1961 and took a Ph.D. from Chicago in 1967. Author of studies of Pueblo Indian societies, including The Tewa World (1969), he also compiled and edited an anthology of Native American Poetry. He taught at Princeton before joining the University of New Mexico faculty in 1970. |
