Abd al-Hafiz

, he was soon confronted with uprisings and the demands of European creditors. Besieged (1911) at Fès by rebels, he was relieved by a French army. On Mar. 30, 1912, he accepted a French protectorate, and on Aug. 12 he abdicated.
