Lava Plateaus

vast (hundreds of thousands of sq km) plateaus formed by the outpouring onto the earth’s surface of enormous masses of chiefly basic (basaltic) lava which, owing to its fluidity, fills up all irregularities in the relief (for example, the Columbia Plateau in North America and certain plateaus in Transcaucasia).
