abdominal circumference

abdominal circumference

A term for a measurement used in assessing foetal growth, which is regarded as the most important marker of normal foetal proportions. It ranges from 50 mm at 11 weeks to 300 mm at 37 weeks. In adults it is an important clinical parameter for assessing risk of developing metabolic syndrome—36 inches (88 cm) is the cut off point, above which metabolic syndrome is more likely.
