Lavin, Irving

Lavin, Irving

(1927– ) art historian; born in St. Louis (husband of Marilyn Lavin). He studied at Cambridge, England (1948–49), Washington University, St. Louis (B.A. 1949), New York University (M.A. 1952), and Harvard (M.A. 1952; Ph.D. 1955). He taught at several institutions, notably at the Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton (1973), and specialized in ancient art, and Renaissance and Baroque sculpture.
