Lavrent’ev, Mikhail Mikhailovich

 

Born July 21, 1932, in Moscow. Soviet mathematician; corresponding member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1968). Son of M. A. Lavrent’ev.

Lavrent’ev graduated from Moscow State University in 1954 and has worked in the Siberian Division of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR since 1957. He is one of the creators of the theory of incorrect problems of mathematical physics. He also produced a number of important results on multidimensional inverse problems for differential equations that arise in the study of the structure of the earth on the basis of observed geophysical fields.
