Law Code of Casimir of 1468

a legal document of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, promulgated in Vilnius on February 29, 1468. The law code remained in effect until the first Lithuanian Statute (1529) went into effect. The original has not been preserved, but copies from the late 15th and 16th centuries exist. The law code, which consists of 25 articles, was drawn up during the period of large-scale distribution of lands to feudal lords, involving the enserfment of free peasants and the exemption of lands and the peasants living on them from obligations to the state and the court of the grand duke.

The law code was intended mainly to protect the rights of feudal ownership and to systematize repressive measures against manifestations of class struggle.
