[′nēt ‚līn] (civil engineering) The line defining the limits of an aspect of construction, such as an excavation or a wall. Also known as net line. (mapping) That border line which indicates the limits of an area shown on a map or chart.

1. A line which defines the limits of work, such as an excavation, cut stone, etc. 2. The true face line of a building regardless of the projections of the stones; a line back of, or inside of, incidental projections.
