Local Area Agreement

A three-year action plan/agreement between central and local Government to implement national (UK) policy in a particular local authority area. LAAs underpin the national performance framework and its priorities, through which central Government measures progress. Local authorities act on behalf of their local strategic partners in discussions with their regional Government office. Each LAA is negotiated with the relevant regional Government Office, and includes a mix of national and local priorities and targets relevant to the area, often focusing on children and young people, safer, stronger and healthier communities, and older people.
