a warm current in the Mozambique Channel, in the western part of the Indian Ocean; it is a branch of the Southern Equatorial Current. The Mozambique Current flows southward along the shores of Africa at 1.8–2.8 km/hr (in the period from November through April). The average water temperature at the surface is 26°–28°C in February and 22°–25°C in August.
