Mozhga


Mozhga

 

a city directly administered through the Udmurt ASSR. A station on the Kazan-Agryz railroad, 96 km southwest of Izhevsk. Population, 38,900 (1970).

A small settlement originally founded in the mid-19th century, Mozhga grew during the years of Soviet power, becoming a city in 1926. The city has a glassworks, tannin extraction plant, a factory for machinery spare parts, and a sawmilling and furniture combine. There are also medical and pedagogical schools and a veterinary technicum.
