Nechitailo, Vasilii Kirillovich

 

Born Dec. 27, 1914 (Jan. 9, 1915), in the village of Vorontsovo-Nikolaevskoe, in what is now Rostov Oblast. Soviet painter. People’s Artist of the RSFSR (1965). Corresponding member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1973).

Nechitailo studied at the Moscow Art Institute under S. V. Gerasimov from 1936 to 1942. He is a genre and portrait painter whose works include To the Partisan Detachment (1945, Simferopol’ Museum of Art) and the series Kolkhoz Young People (including the Kuban’ Kolkhoz Woman Worker, 1957, Tret’-iakov Gallery), The Riazan’ Stock Raisers (including Dairymaid T. Rodkina, 1959–60, Russian Museum, Leningrad), and Foremost People in Kuban’ Agriculture (including Combine Operator N. Bugai, 1961, Russian Museum). Among Nechitailo’s other works are On Red Square (1961–64, V. I. Lenin Central Museum, Moscow) and For Soviet Power! (1966–70, Ul’ianovsk Oblast Museum of Art), for which he received the I. E. Repin State Prize of the RSFSR (1971).
