McClelland, David C. (Clarence)

(1917– ) psychologist; born in Mt. Vernon, N.Y. A Yale Ph.D., he taught at Wesleyan University (1946–56) and Harvard (1956). He is best known for his works on motivation and achievement including The Achieving Society (1963) and Motivating Economic Achievement (coauthored, 1969).
