Al Layne was the hypnotist who originally hypnotized Edgar Cayce (1877–1945). Cayce had been suffering from a sever throat infection that seemed incurable. Layne put Cayce into a trance and asked him to diagnose himself. Cayce did so, stating that he was suffering from a partial paralysis of the vocal cords. He went on to prescribe an increase in blood circulation in that area for a short time. Layne then asked the entranced Cayce to prescribe for his (Layne’s) illness. Cayce again diagnosed and then prescribed. In his diagnosis, Cayce used medical terms that neither man had ever encountered and did not understand. This was the start of Cayce’s many years of medical diagnosis and prescription.
