Bashchelakskii

 

a mountain range in northwestern Altai, situated in the interfluve of the Anui and Charysh rivers of the Ob’ Basin. The Bashchelakskii Range is about 120 km long and has a maximum elevation of 2,421 m. It is composed of granite and crystalline schist. Mountain forest-steppe covers the low massifs of the northwestern part of the range; dark coniferous taiga covers the north and northeast; and larch forests grow in the south. Above 2,000 m are alpine meadows and mountain tundra.
