M-Number

the ratio of the velocity ν of a flow of a liquid or gas at a point to the velocity of sound a at the same point in the flow: M = v/a. The M-number is usually called the Mach number. In Soviet literature the M-number is sometimes called the Maievskii number. (SeeMACH NUMBER.)
