Myers, Dr. Arthur Thomas (1851–1894)
(religion, spiritualism, and occult)Arthur Thomas Myers was the younger brother of Frederick W. H. Myers. Arthur was born in England in 1851. He was a founding member of the Society for Psychical Research (SPR) and served on its council from 1888 to 1894. He was especially interested in cases of paranormal healing and made a special study of hypnotism.
Myers joined with French neurologist Pierre Janet in experimenting with telepathic hypnosis. He also participated in some of the SPR sittings with American medium Leonore Piper. He contributed articles to medical journals, the SPR Proceedings: Report on an Alleged Physical Phenomenon, and Mind-Cure, Faith Cure, and the Miracles of Lourdes. He died in London on January 10, 1894.
