On the central eastern border of WY, east of Casper, created Feb 14, 1911 from Converse County. Name Origin: For the Niobrara River, which flows through the county, or for the Niobrara Indian tribe; from an Omaha-Poca Indian word ni obthantha ko 'spreading water river.'
