Adopted son, birth mother wants contact
Ask a Lawyer
Question
Country: United States of AmericaState: New JerseyI adopted my son 22 years ago. One year ago, his birth mother began a campaign to have access to my son. My son is multiply disabled and I am his legal guardian. He is able to tell me that he wants no contact with his birth mother. The birth mother has an all-out search going to find him. I know she has no legal rights, but I am concerned for his safety. Most recently, on an "adoptee" website she posted my name, address, email address, his name, a recent address, etc. I feel this is an invasion of our right to privacy. Do I have any legal recourse in stopping her from publicizing my personal info on the internet? She has managed to find people to violate the HIPA laws in order to get the info she has about my son. Again, I'm worried for his safety; she seems incredibly unstable. What can I do legally?
Answer
If need be you can arrange to get a restraining order against her--Question
