Lazarov, Kiril Georgiev

 

Born July 24, 1895, in Dolna-Bania, Sofia District. Bulgarian economist, statesman, and public figure. Corresponding member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (1958), Hero of Socialist Labor of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria (1964). Became a member of the Bulgarian Communist Party in 1915 and of the party’s Central Committee in 1953.

In World War I, Lazarov was an organizer of soldiers’ committees. He was involved in party work in Sofia from 1920 to 1922, and he participated in the September antifascist uprising of 1923. He was in the USSR from 1924 to 1945, engaged in scientific and party work. In 1947–48 he was chief director of the Central Statistical Board of Bulgaria, and he served as minister of finance from 1949 to 1962. He has been awarded three Orders of Georgii Dimitrov.
