[′lō·kəl ′min·ə·məm] (mathematics) A local minimum of a function ƒ is a value ƒ(c) of ƒ where ƒ(x) ≥ ƒ(c) for all x in some neighborhood of c; if ƒ(c) is a local minimum, ƒ is said to have a local minimum at c.
