Nedbailo, Anatolii Konstantinovich
Born Jan. 28, 1923, in the city of Izium, Kharkov Oblast. Twice Hero of the Soviet Union (Apr. 19, 1945; June 29, 1945); major general of aviation (1970). Member of the CPSU since 1944.
In the Red Army since 1941, Nedbailo graduated from the Voroshilovgrad Military Aviation Pilots’ School in 1943 and from the Air Force Academy in 1951. In the Great Patriotic War (1941–45), he served on the Southern, Fourth Ukrainian, and Third Byelorussian fronts as a pilot, flight commander, and deputy commander and commander of a squadron of the 75th Guards Assault Air Regiment (1943–45). He completed 224 combat flights. Nedbailo has been teaching since the end of the war. He has been awarded the Order of Lenin, three Orders of the Red Banner, the Order of the Patriotic War First and Second Class, the Order of Alexander Nevsky, the Order of the Red Star, and various medals.
