locatio conductio

locatio conductio

in Roman law, the contract of hire. The language is still used in civilian jurisdictions. There were three main varieties: locatio rei, ‘the hire of a thing’; locatio operarum, ‘a worker for a wage; locatio operis faciendi, a contract for ‘services providing a result’. Certain professions were beyond such contracts - the advocate received an honorarium rather than a fee, and a law professor received not even an honorarium.

LOCATIO CONDUCTIO, Civil law. Location conduction is a consensual contract, by which a person becomes bound to deliver to another the use of a thing for a certain time, or to do work at. a certain price. 1 Bouv. Inst. n. 984.
