Banks-Vernonia State Trail
Location:Along OR 47 between Banks and Vernonia.
Facilities:Multi-use trail (é), picnic area, restrooms (é).
Activities:Fishing, hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, wildlife viewing.
Special Features:Although located just 40 miles west of Portland, the trail area is very remote and has few amenities. The asphalt and gravel trail is 8 feet wide, paralleled by a 4-foot-wide horse trail. Converted from a historic railroad corridor, the trail features 12 bridges, two of which are 600 feet long and 80 feet high.
