Oital

an urban-type settlement in Merke Raion, Dzhambul Oblast, Kazakh SSR. Located in the foothills of the Kirghiz Range, 2 km from the Merke railroad station on the Dzhambul-Frunze line. Population, 21,000 (1974). Oital has a sugar refinery, a cheese dairy, a winery, and beet-raising, fruit-and-grape, and feedlot sovkhozes.
