Nedogonov, Alekseiivanovich

Born Oct. 19 (Nov. 1), 1914, in the city of Grushevsk, now the city of Shakhty, Rostov Oblast; died Mar. 13, 1948, in Moscow. Soviet Russian poet. Member of the CPSU since 1942.

The son of a worker, Nedogonov studied at the M. Gorky Institute of Literature from 1939 to 1945. His first works were published in 1934. He served in the Russo-Finnish War (1939–40) and the Great Patriotic War (1941–45). His only book of poems, Simple People, was published posthumously in 1948. Nedogonov’s lyric poetry is devoted to working people, to his native Don River, and to the wartime heroic exploits of his contemporaries. His principal work—the narrative poem Flag Over the Village Soviet (1947; State Prize of the USSR, 1948)—is infused with the fervent ardor of victory and new achievements of labor. Nedogonov was awarded two orders and various medals.
