McMahan, Elizabeth Anne (b. 1924)
(religion, spiritualism, and occult)Elizabeth Anne McMahan was born on May 5, 1924, in Mocksville, North Carolina. She studied at Duke University and also at the University of Hawaii, where she received her Ph.D. in 1960.
From 1943 to 1948, McMahan was a research assistant at Duke University and from 1948 to 1954, she was a research fellow at the Parapsychology Laboratory there. She held various posts in zoology at Duke, the University of Honolulu, and the University of Chicago. She was a charter member of the Parapsychological Association and a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Entomological Society of America.
McMahan published many papers on parapsychology based on her own investigations into telepathy, precognition, and psychokinesis. Her writings have appeared in volumes of the Journal of Parapsychology.
