Abdullahi Ibn Al-Said Muhammad Khalifa

 

Died in November 1899. A ruler of the independent Sudan state from the death of the Mahdi (1885) through September 1898. He curbed the separatism of tribal leaders, strengthened the Mahdist government, and created a strong army. Abdullahi’s name is linked with strong resistance of the Sudanese to the British colonialists in 1896–98. After the British victory at Omdurman (September 1898) Abdullahi led a partisan struggle of the Sudanese people and was killed in battle.
