Microlites

fine microscopic prismatic crystals of plagioclase and other rock-forming minerals that are included in or form the entire semivitreous groundmass of effusive rocks. Microlites differ from phenocrysts and crystallites, that is, the smallest nucleating crystal formations, in that they are produced during the devitrification of volcanic glass.
