[mik′nal·ē ‚vi‚sak ‚drī·ər] (mining engineering) A coal dryer that operates on the convection from the heavy forced draft from a coal-fired furnace; it consists of an inclined reciprocating screen over which coal moves; moisture is removed by the hot air from the furnace passing down through the bed of coal.
