(mī″krō-mĕ-tas′tă-sĭs) (′tă-sēz″) plural.micrometastases [ micro- + metastasis] Any of the foci of tumor cells that are invisible to the naked eye or by routine imaging techniques but may be seen using microscopy with special stains or antibodies or by other laboratory techniques.

micrometastases

Small collections of cancer cells, discernible only on microscopic examination, occurring in the lymph nodes of people with cancer. They may occur in treated cancer patients and identify a high-risk group among those previously deemed to be free of the disease.
