A uncommon variant of urothelial (transitional cell) carcinoma that presents in older (average age 76) adults, more commonly in men, which is histologically high grade, deeply invasive (into muscularis propria) and metastastatic, variably accompanied by in situ carcinoma.DiffDx
Metastatic micropapillary carcinoma, papillary (e.g., renal cell) carcinoma.
Management
Immediate radical cystectomy.
Prognosis
Poor: all patients die within two years.
