Micropigmentation

A form of permanent makeup in which minute, metabolically inert pigment granules are injected, like a tattoo, below the epidermis. Micropigmentation (MP) is used to enhance facial features—eyebrows, eyelashes, and lips—improve scarring, vitiligo, and reconstruct the nipple/areola; usually 2 spaced treatments are needed; removal requires use of laser; pigments may interfere with cranial MRI; needles inserted too deeply can cause bleeding, pigment spreading, and damage to hair follicles
