[′led ‚chām·bər ‚prä·səs] (chemical engineering) A process for the preparation of impure or dilute (60-78) sulfuric acid; sulfur dioxide is oxidized by moist air with nitrogen oxide catalysts in a series of lead-lined chambers, the Gay-Lussac tower and the Glover tower; used primarily in the manufacture of fertilizer.
